Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'

I'm back in Utah just waiting for school to start. Originally I came back early to get moved in and to get a job. So far.......no luck!

A couple weeks before coming back I had numerous conversations with my landlady about moving in early. Well, when I got out here and was all excited about moving in I gave her a call to see when I could. Only during that 4th phone call did she feel like telling me that no one could move in early because they are cleaning the carpets and painting. No help whatsoever! And the job thing is so frustrating. Bleh.

Though on a totally cool note, I have a car this year thanks to my awesome aunt who is letting me use her old car. Let me introduce you to this new car in my life. HE. IS. GHETTO-FABULOUS. AND. I. LOVE. HIM. His name is Yoda because he is green, old (and wise), and when he accelerates he makes sounds kind of like Yoda from Star Wars. Plus one of the back doors doesn't work and Star Wars Yoda did walk with a cane. It's really pretty much awesome. Grocery shopping is going to be more appealing this year.

I'll let you know all about the move and my new apartment in the next blog post.....or the one after that.

It's Good to be Alive

ALOHA my fellow bloggers. Long time no blog, eh?

Don't believe my allusion of "ALOHA" (you know, Hawaii and exotic vacationing) for a second. Although this summer has been full of fun --complete with surprise road trips with college friends, Yellowstone, and bumming around....there was definitely no white sand or fire dancers.

This is actually my last week home in the land OZ before I go back to school. SAD. But maybe Provo will have a random tornado this school year that will pick my apartment up and carry me all the way back to Kansas with my little fish, Fred Astaire, too. I guess this update is just to tell you that I will be updating much more very very soon. My goal is to blog at least once a week this school year.

And because it is the Sabbath I decided to post the following video . I think we all need a reminder when it comes to recognizing our tremendous worth as we are all sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father.

A Dingo ate Samantha

Part 1: Surprise
I had too much time this month and kind of “splurged” with Samantha. We decided to take a random trip and I don’t even know if I should write this because my mom reads my blog. School isn’t too important before finals so we ditched school for a week and went to the outback. To clarify, we didn’t go to the steakhouse.

Australia was really cool. We didn’t have a lot of money to do anything considering we used it all on our plane tickets. Pretty much pictures are the only souvenirs that we have. We actually didn’t even have any money for a motel so we camped. Being unsure about the legal places to camp, our paranoia led us to walk for a long time until we knew no one would ever see our one man tent (very crowded with two people by the way). As you can imagine, we were definitely in the Australian outback by that point. After I got control of my sporadic cries and optimism of “we’re going to die,” both Samantha and I started to have a lot more fun. Samantha collected wood for a fire and I was able to start a fire thanks to all those years of attending Girls Camp! Want to talk about luck; Samantha was able to make a Ukulele out of some wood she carved with her apt key and her hair. So all night we sang “Somewhere over the Rainbow” and roasted tarantulas on sticks.

During the night, Samantha got up to go to the bathroom and the next thing I heard was her loud scream. I scooted out of the tent and a Dingo had my Samantha! I remembered a story that a missionary at the MTC told me of how a Dingo ate a baby when a couple was camping and I refused to have Samantha follow that same fate. I was sick of how bad this vacation was turning out so my adrenalin kicked in and I repeatedly hit the Dingo till it dropped Samantha. Talk about a scarring moment. Samantha is okay though, but the Dingo did take the Ukulele.
We decided that we wanted to go home. The only problem is that we were really lost and we didn’t even have a compass and I didn’t pay attention during Girls Camp when they taught how to find directions by using the stars.

Part 2: The Escape
We walked forever and only once did we come into contact with someone: Bear Grylls from Man vs. Wild. He couldn’t help us though because he was in the middle of filming his show. W couldn’t be seen on his footage or else his viewers would know that he wasn’t alone on his survival adventure. In fact, he ran from us when we called out to him. Thankfully, a couple of hours later, Samantha spotted a herd of beautiful horse all coming towards us. We were about to be trampled to death when all of a sudden Samantha spread her arms, shook her head with her curly locks bouncing in the wind, and stared intensely at the horses as they got closer. Just as I closed my eyes and took my last breath, the rumbling stopped! Readers, Samantha is some horse whisperer because she stopped the horses from trampling us to death. She’s the one that got us home.

Samantha attempted to wrangle the horses together, but couldn’t do it alone. For 2 days she trained me in the art of wild horse taming. We still needed one more person to help us lead all of the horses. We camped for about a day when we were awakened by a shrilly whistle. Our prayers were answered. Hugh Jackman was riding on Black Beauty or at least it looked like Black Beauty. Apparently we were 15 miles from his ranch and he was just taking a morning ride. With all 3 of us we were able to lead the horses to an unspecified location. We sold the horses for a plane back to Utah. Notice I said plane and not tickets….that’s right we bought the plane, we bought the pilot, and we stole Hugh Jackman, and dropped a care package for Bear Grylls over the general area we last saw him in.

Now we’re back at school and I’ve never been happier. Don’t worry mom, we got pictures.

Love,

Happy April 1st! But seriously this story is so legit.
